Burnish concrete finish by Polished SA

Burnish

A surface-level polish that works the top layer of the slab without cutting into the aggregate, for a smooth, uniform floor at a lower cost.

  • Finish Burnished, No Exposure
  • Method Mechanical or Topical
  • Sealer Topical or None Required

Burnishing works differently to a full mechanical polish. Instead of grinding down through the concrete to expose the stone underneath, we polish the existing cream layer, the fine cement paste at the surface, to a smooth and even sheen. There’s no aggregate showing through, so the colour and texture of the floor stay consistent from one end of the room to the other.

Because fewer grinding passes are involved, burnishing is quicker to complete than a mechanical polish and costs less as a result. It can be finished two ways depending on budget: a full mechanical burnish for a harder, longer-lasting shine, or a topical sealer applied over a lighter surface polish for a more affordable result. Both give a clean, uniform floor without the speckled look of exposed aggregate.

This finish suits internal floors where you want a plain, contemporary surface rather than a stone-textured one, and it’s a practical option for renovations where the existing slab is in reasonable condition and doesn’t need heavy grinding to get right.
